It has been given a courageous name \u2014 \u201cLion\u201d. In translation from Hebrew \u201chesed\u201d it means \u201cmercy\u201d, consequently \u201cmercy in Lviv\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 5%; padding-right: 10%; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Within 15 years of its existence \u201cHesed-Arieh\u201d has been looking for and assisting the needy elderly Jews, members of their families and the Righteous Among the Nations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 5%; padding-right: 10%; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Children and our clients with special needs is a separate and extremely important part of Hesed\u2019s activity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 5%; padding-right: 10%; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">In 1998 the \ufb01rst 450 customers received their assistance, currently it turned into more than 5000 needy people from Drohobych, Boryslav, Sambir, Stryy, lvano-Frankivsk and many others small towns and villages.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 5%; padding-right: 10%; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Social assistance to the needy people is not the only goal of our Foundation. Its activity is also focused on cultural revival of Jewish community, preservation of the huge Western Ukrainian Jewish cultural and historical heritage \u2014 a real pride for all Western Ukrainian Jewry.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 5%; padding-right: 10%; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Numerous Jewish festivals, exhibitions and conferences are organized in the atmosphere of mutual understanding and tolerance. Following our \ufb01rst steps in the \ufb01eld of social-cultural activity in 1998, now we can boast of six festivals: of Jewish book (2000 \u2014 2006), community festival of Jewish crafts and art \u201cFlamed-mane Lion&#8221; (2005) and three International festivals of Jewish stage art \u201cConstellation of Lion\u201d (2002, 2004, 2006), ten International Festivals of Klezmer Music \u201cLvivKlezFest\u201d (2009-2018), scienti\ufb01c conference \u201cAndrey Sheptitskiy.
